While attending the University of Minnesota, Vanessa had the opportunity to write case studies for Marcella Windmuller-Campione’s silviculture class. Collaborating with land managers and seeing the results of their work firsthand deepened her understanding of land management practices and their practical applications—knowledge she carried with her after graduation.
Since then, she has worked for the U.S. Forest Service and now with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, where she helps private landowners manage their land. In this role, a variety of factors—such as available equipment, micro-environments, and labor—can all shape management decisions. These challenges can call for creative, site-specific solutions, which is why she continues to rely on the Great Lakes Silviculture Library as a valuable resource in her work.
